Cal State Fullerton became the first Cal State university to become a smoke-free campus today, Aug 1.

Signs of Tuffy, the school mascot, with a no-smoking symbol have been placed on campus (pictured above).

It is a law a year in the making, having been signed as President’s Directive No. 18, University Smoking Policy, last year.

“It is important that we provide an environment that is healthy for all who spend time on our campus,” CSUF says on the website for Smoke Free Campus.

However, the law has no teeth; it can only be implemented by “education and training,” and not by fines or criminal offenses, according to the directive.
